Bonus Programs
Agency accounts only. Bonus programs require an agency account.
What Are Bonus Programs?
Bonus Programs let you define incentive structures that reward agents with additional payouts based on their production during a commission period. Bonuses are evaluated automatically when you run the Payments and Splits module and are included in the Payment Report.
Bonus Recipe Types
Each bonus program uses a "recipe" that defines how the bonus is calculated. There are four recipe types:
1. Per Policy
Pays a fixed amount for each qualifying policy in the statement period.
Bonus = Number of Qualifying Policies x Per-Policy AmountExample: $5 per policy bonus. If an agent has 20 policies in the statement, the bonus is 20 x $5 = $100.
2. Lump Sum
Pays a fixed lump sum when the agent meets a minimum threshold.
Bonus = Fixed Amount (if threshold is met)Example: $500 bonus for agents who have at least 15 policies in the period. An agent with 15 or more policies gets $500; an agent with 14 gets nothing.
3. Rate Override
Overrides the commission rate for qualifying policies. Instead of (or in addition to) the normal payment schedule rate, the agent receives a different rate.
Bonus = Commission Amount x Override Rate (replaces or supplements the normal payout rate)Example: Normally an agent earns 60% of commission. A rate override bonus sets the rate to 75% for agents who meet the threshold. On a $100 commission, the agent earns $75 instead of $60.
4. Tiered Bonus
Applies different bonus amounts at different production levels. As an agent crosses tier thresholds, higher bonus rates kick in.
Example tiers:
1-10 policies: $3 per policy
11-20 policies: $5 per policy
21+ policies: $8 per policy
An agent with 25 policies earns:
First 10 at $3 = $30
Next 10 at $5 = $50
Last 5 at $8 = $40
Total bonus: $120
Tiers can be configured as incremental (each tier applies only to policies in that range, as shown above) or flat (the highest reached tier rate applies to all policies).
Bonus Thresholds
Most bonus types support minimum thresholds that an agent must meet before the bonus activates:
Threshold Type | How It Works |
|---|---|
Policy Count | Agent must have at least X policies in the period. |
Commission Total | Agent must have earned at least $X in total commissions. |
Premium Total | Agent must have at least $X in total premiums. |
If the threshold is not met, the bonus is not applied for that agent in that period.
Configuring a Bonus Program
Go to Settings > Bonus Programs.
Click Add Bonus Program.
Enter a program name (e.g., "Q1 Production Bonus", "Monthly Per-Policy Incentive").
Select the recipe type (Per Policy, Lump Sum, Rate Override, or Tiered).
Set the threshold (minimum policies, commissions, or premiums required).
Set the bonus value (per-policy amount, lump sum, override rate, or tier configuration).
Optionally restrict the bonus to specific carriers, products, or tags.
Save the program.
Active bonus programs are automatically evaluated whenever Payments and Splits runs.
Bonus Evaluation During Processing
When the Payments and Splits module runs:
All active bonus programs are identified.
For each agent, the system counts qualifying policies and totals commissions/premiums.
Thresholds are checked — if met, the bonus is calculated using the recipe formula.
Bonus amounts are added to the agent's payout in the Payment Report.
The Payment Report shows a separate line item for each bonus earned, including the program name and calculation details.
Leaderboard
The bonus system includes a Leaderboard view that ranks agents by their production metrics:
Total policies
Total commissions
Total premiums
Bonus amounts earned
The leaderboard updates in real-time as statements are processed and is useful for tracking agent performance and motivating the team.
Example: Complete Bonus Scenario
Setup:
Bonus Program: "Monthly Per-Policy" — $5 per policy, minimum 10 policies
Bonus Program: "Top Producer" — $200 lump sum, minimum 25 policies
Agent results for the month:
Agent A: 30 policies, $3,000 in commissions
Agent B: 12 policies, $1,500 in commissions
Agent C: 8 policies, $800 in commissions
Bonus outcomes:
Agent A earns both bonuses: (30 x $5 = $150) + $200 lump sum = $350 in bonuses
Agent B earns per-policy only: 12 x $5 = $60 in bonuses (does not meet Top Producer threshold)
Agent C earns no bonuses (below the 10-policy minimum for per-policy)
